Conflict Resolution/Enhancing Life Skills

Curriculum covers exploring conflict, style of conflict resolution, communication styles, anger and stress management, and the alternatives we might choose to:

  • Examine conflict and how it relates to everyday life.
  • Identify personal styles of conflict management.
  • Explore the use of effective communication as a means of resolving conflict.
  • Examine various methods used in conflict resolution.
  • Examine beliefs and attitudes about conflict and its resolution.
  • Individuals interested in enhancing their interpersonal skills should attend.

Principles of Mediation

This 36 hours course provides an introduction to the history, principle, theory and skills applicable to practice mediation from a transformative (facilitative) orientation.

Transformative mediation is a party-driven process that focuses on a party’s self determination, empowerment and recognition.

Participants in this training sessions will:

  • Provide an understanding of conflict and its impact on human behavior
  • Explore the different orientations to mediation
  • Identify opportunities for empowerment and recognition
  • Provide understanding of the nine step mediation process.
  • Examine the roles and functions of mediators.
  • Identify the skills and characteristics required to effectively mediate.
  • Apply the tools and techniques through simulations.

Anger Management

This two-day course:

  • Explores anger and its association with conflict
  • Provides an understanding of t he impact of both anger and conflict on human behavior and human interaction
  • Identifies healthy strategies for copying with anger

Participants will learn to:

  • Examine the phases of anger
  • Identify situations that “trigger” anger
  • Identify and practice healthy strategies to effectively manage anger
  • Explore the emotions and feels associated with conflict that lead to anger

Diversity: Valuing and Managing a Diverse Workforce

A highly interactive one-day workshop that explores the meanings of diversity and inclusion, the impact of a diverse society on communication, and how to manage conflict that may result.

Participants will:

  • Foster an appreciation of the strategic role-relationship of understanding, managing and resolving conflict;
  • Learn the importance of leveraging diversity and creating an inclusive environment/culture to reduce the potential for conflict
  • Explore effective conflict management techniques for the workplace
  • Develop an appreciation for the value of diversity

Workplace Conflict: Facilitation

A highly interactive two-day workshop that explore the steps in the facilitation process that lead to desired results, techniques of the facilitator to assist groups in accomplishing their and the dynamics of the group goal, and how to pay attention to the logistics of the process.

This workshop will:

  • Provide participants with the theory and skills to lead large and small group decision making process
  • Explore the core values in participatory decision making
  • Provide an understanding of the dynamics of group decision making
  • Identify the role and responsibilities of the facilitator
  • Develop an understanding of the dynamics and characteristics of a group

Campus Mediation

This course provides an introduction to the principles, theory and application of facilitative mediation and how it can be applied to college culture to:

  • Understand the mediation process.
  • Examine the roles and function of mediators.
  • Identify the skills and characteristics required to effectively mediate.
  • Apply tools and techniques through simulations.
  • Provide technical assistance in the establishment of a successful campus/organizational mediation program.

Victim Offender Mediation

A challenging three-day course that covers:

  • The history of restorative justice
  • An overview of restorative justice processes
  • The stages of victimization
  • The development of mediation skills necessary to mediate these highly emotional cases.

The participants will:

  • Be exposed to the restorative justice concept and the history behind it
  • Develop an appreciation for the uniqueness of victim/offender mediation
  • Have an understanding of the psychological impact crime have on victims
  • Develop the skills necessary to mediate victim/offender cases

Arbitration

A two-day course that covers

  • The laws, statues and acts that govern arbitration
  • How to conduct an opening statement
  • Rules of evidence
  • The role of witnesses
  • Fact-finding
  • Writing the agreement
  • Closing the hearing

The course will:

  • Educate participants on the history of arbitration
  • Distinguish arbitration from other alternative dispute resolution processes
  • Review arbitration laws and statues
  • Provide an overview of the arbitration process
  • Provide an opportunity for participants to practice arbitrating
