Everyone has different passions in life. At the Center for Dispute Settlement, our vision is to help create a non-violent, conflict-resolving community; whereby, disputes are peacefully resolved at the earliest possible stage to avoid escalation and the potential of violence.

For 45 years, the Center for Dispute Settlement (CDS) has been providing alternative dispute resolution services to help build resilient communities in and around the greater Rochester area. Serving the eight-county Finger Lakes area, CDS offers a range of mediation and restorative practice services to support relationship building both within families and the communities in which they live. Since its establishment in 1973, hundreds of volunteer members of the community have been trained and serve as third-party neutrals, successfully resolving thousands of cases per year that would otherwise go to court.

We provide facilitated discussions, presentations, workshops, seminars and training in topical areas such as conflict resolution/self-management, implicit bias/cultural humility, and basic life skills for community groups/organizations, institutions, and workplaces in support of building social capital and improving teamwork and collaboration. Services specifically designed for court diversion programs, probation, re-entry, and DSS related job preparedness & retention are also available. Full immersion programming inclusive of program development, training, and technical support is offered to schools focused on climate and cultural change to increase student academic success.

All of these programs, trainings, and classes are meant to provide you with the most knowledgeable information and, ultimately, help give you the best results. As we said before, our mission is to use and promote peaceful dispute resolution processes throughout our communities.

From programs to community involvement, we love being able to help share our passion with the people around us. See what news we have for you on all the ways we have helped change the greater Rochester area.
