Administrative Intern
Status: Up to 27 hours per week
Program: Administration
Location: Rochester, NY
Under the direct supervision of the Center for Dispute Settlements’ Director of Operations, and in conformance with the policies and procedures set forth by the Center for Dispute Settlement Board of Directors, assists in the administration of the Center for Dispute Settlement’s operations and programs.
Specifics of Duties:
- Assists with office organization tasks.
- Learns to conduct intakes, schedule mediations and prepare hearing notices and agreements.
- Learns and assist in maintaining documentation on all cases. Open and close files. Complete statistical information for reports. Review files for completeness before and after mediations. Provide follow-up to referral sources.
- Assists in the scheduling and attends debriefing of volunteer mediators assigned to the program.
- Assists in the preparation of required reports.
- Speaks to organizations and groups when asked by supervisor.
- Attends regularly scheduled non-confidential supervisory meetings and Center for Dispute Settlement staff meetings/events.
- Other duties as required (Must be approved by the President/CEO and./or Director of Operations.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Proven ability to exercise confidentiality;
- Ability to interview and make assessments;
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing;
- Initiative, integrity and a commitment to peaceful conflict resolution through mediation;
- Knowledge of Windows, Excel and basic computer technology;
- Strong organizational and time management abilities with ability to work independently.
- Must be currently attending a NYS college or university or planning to attend a college or university in the Fall of 2025 or Spring of 2026 (May be asked to provide proof)
Preferred:
- Knowledge of conflict resolution skills;
- Office management skills;
- Knowledge of Center for Dispute Settlement programs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a recognized high school, GED program, college, or university;
- Any equivalent combination of work experience and education sufficient to indicate ability to perform the job.
