Plunging for a Cause

Friday, February 2, 2018 - 3:30pm

There are so many great events that happen around Rochester, NY and the rest of the country to help promote peace as well as to support many great causes. One of the most popular winter time events is the Polar Plunge. Who wouldn’t love voluntarily dipping into freezing cold water in the middle of February!

What is the Polar Plunge you ask, it is: a unique opportunity for individuals, organizations, and businesses to support local Special Olympics athletes by jumping or running into icy cold waters. Plunge participants take a quick dip in a river or pool to raise funds for the Special Olympics, the state's largest year-round organization devoted to sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. This event does more things than one. The Polar Plunge helps:

  • Bring people together from all places to raise money for a great cause.

  • Makes people work together as a team.

  • Helps people stay motivated and committed through training for event.

At the Center for Dispute Settlement (CDS) we strive to help bring people together to help them better themselves and their relationships. Similar to what the Polar Plunge is doing, they are creating a reason for people to set aside their differences and come together to help raise money for others. If you wanted to get involved, the Rochester Polar Plunge is Sunday, February 11th at noon! Make a team, join a team, or just go to watch hundreds of people “freezin’ for a reason”!

CDS thinks it is so important to promote peace throughout our communities and work through any problems or conflicts. This is just what the Polar Plunge is doing; they are helping to raise awareness in a fun and peaceful way.
