At The Center for Dispute Settlement, our goal is the help create a non-violent, conflict resolving community; whereby, disputes are peacefully resolved at the earliest possible stage to avoid escalation and the potential of violence by creating the capacity and resource within individuals and the community to effectively resolve their disputes quickly, informally and peacefully. To achieve this we have a wide variety of programs to help the most people.

Family

Our services save many families anxiety, time, and money with individualized programs that help peacefully resolve disputes. While we work on divorce and child custody issues, we also provide mediation skills to family members. Learn more.

School

We offer various conflict resolution trainings and services designed specifically for schools. As a long-standing community resource, we are ready to partner with schools throughout our seven-county service area to help “Peace it Together.” Learn more.

Community Mediation

This program is used to address quality-of life issues in neighborhoods that might otherwise end up in court. This helps disputing parties resolve their differences in a legally binding manner without direct court intervention. Learn more.

Police Oversight

We strive to help bring about a better relationship between the community and law enforcement by providing civilian oversight to local police agencies, police complaint, and compliment intake services, and conciliation opportunities between citizens and officers. Learn more.

Special Education

Education Mediation is a process in which adults/children with disabilities and work/school districts meet with a neutral person, a mediator, to work out differences in a collaborative way. Disputes may arise relating to the identification, evaluation, work/educational placement. Learn more.

Specialty Programs

We are the premier provider of third-party neutrals throughout the 8-county NY State 7th Judicial District.  The Center’s third party neutral services provide access to independent and neutral mediators, arbitrators, fact-finders, facilitators and dispute resolution specialists.  These services are provided by Center staff and volunteers who are trained and certified under the auspices of the New York State Unified Court Services Office of Court Administration. All in all, the Center for Dispute Settlement wants to work together to make our community and the people within happier. We’d love to talk more about what we do; connect with us today.
